Local Girl Scouts Install Solar Panels with SUNation Solar Systems 07/14/2015 Troop 3870 Powers Up In Oakdale (Long Island, NY) Junior Girl Scout Troop 3870 of Oakdale/Bohemia recently participated in a hands-on work experience with Long Island’s leading home-grown solar contractor, SUNation Solar Systems, at the contractor’s headquarters in Oakdale. During the solar energy program, the troop learned how to install solar panels on a display roof and experienced how the panels can be used to supply power to electrical items. With the help of SUNation’s solar team, Troop 3870 operated power tools under supervision to construct and install the solar panels on a rooftop display. Once they completed the panel installation, the troop enjoyed solar-powered karaoke and recited the Girl Scout pledge using a solar-powered microphone. At the conclusion of the program, each Girl Scout was presented with a special participation patch that was created by SUNation. The solar program gave the troop the opportunity to experience the Girl Scouts of Suffolk County’s mission, to build girls of courage, confidence and character who make the world a better place.
